Turkish-German Energy Forum – working together for the energy transition
The 6th German-Turkish Energy Forum was held in Berlin at the end of November under the motto ‘The Power of Partnership’. Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy Robert Habeck and Turkish Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar jointly opened the event, which aims to further intensify the energy partnership between Germany and Turkey that has existed since 2013.
The forum focussed on topics such as renewable energies, energy efficiency and the development of flexible energy markets. Both ministers emphasised the need for joint efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and combat climate change. Minister Habeck emphasised the importance of the partnership: ‘Germany and Turkey are close partners.’
An important outcome of the forum was the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the German wind turbine manufacturer Enercon and Turkish partners. The plan is to install at least 350 wind turbines with a total output of 2,500 megawatts over the next five years – an important step for the utilisation of renewable energies in Turkey.
BEM Board Member Christian Heep and Mustafa Atik, Head of BEM’s International Representative Offices, actively participated in the event. Christian Heep was also invited to deepen the dialogue in a special panel with the two ministers and other company representatives. Topics such as the role of electromobility in the energy transition, the integration of renewable energies in innovative mobility solutions and the importance of international partnerships were the focus of the dialogue.
»The Energy Forum is an impressive demonstration of how international partnerships are laying the foundations for a sustainable energy and transport transition. Electromobility and renewable energies are central pillars of this development and we at BEM will continue to provide strong impetus,’ said Heep. ‘The German-Turkish energy partnership aims to drive forward the energy and mobility transition in both countries through close cooperation and the exchange of technologies and expertise and to make a joint contribution to global climate protection. This is also the reason for our involvement at Automechanika Istanbul and our long-standing country representation in Turkey.«
